The Brazilian Grand Prix was a dramatic season finale, concluding one of the most competitive years of modern era racing. Whilst the race saw Spanish driver, Fernando Alonso, claim his second Drivers’ World Championship, much of the spotlight was on Michael Schumacher. The race was to be his final race in F1® and with the iconic Prancing Horse team in which he’d claimed five of his World titles with.
Schumacher qualified in tenth, however a puncture pushed him further back to 19th. But in true Schumacher style, he mounted a relentless comeback to finish fourth, narrowly missing out on the podium.
With seven world titles and 91 race wins to his name, the German had defined an era of dominance at Ferrari, transforming the team into a powerhouse in the early 2000s. His departure marked the end of an extraordinary chapter in F1®.
Despite his retirement, Schumacher made a return to F1® in 2010 with Mercedes where he’d race for a further three more seasons.
