Collectors have the opportunity to own this rare engine cover used by World Champion and 15-time race winner, Jenson Button. A British fan favourite, as well as a fierce competitor out on track, Button and McLaren became synonymous with each other over the years.

Ready to Race

Jenson Button had his first big break in F1® in 1999, when Williams Racing founder and team principal, Frank Williams, called him up offering him the vacant seat for the 2000 season. Despite not feeling ready for F1®, Button accepted the seat, catapulting himself into the high-speed world of Formula One.

Over the years, Button enjoyed seasons with Benetton, Renault, BAR, and Honda. In 2009, he joined Brawn GP (owned by Ross Brawn). He would go on to claim the World Championship – his first and only World title.

With his new Champion status, Jenson Button joined the mighty McLaren F1® Team in 2010, where he would remain until 2017 and become an icon of the team. Paired up alongside World Champion and fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton, the duo would become one of the most popular teams on the grid. The two World Champions complemented each other, helping the team achieve new heights, whilst also remaining competitive between themselves. In 2011, Button finished runner up in the Championship, reminding all of his capabilities behind the wheel.

Button retired from F1® and the team in 2016, however remained a crucial part of the family as their reserve driver. At the 2017 Monte Carlo race, Button returned to the track in place of the absence Fernado Alonso.

The 2015 Season

This engine cover was used during the 2015 season, on Jenson Button’s MP4-30. The cars featured the silver, black and red design which they kept until 2017 when the Papaya era began.

Paired alongside two-time World Champion, Fernando Alonso, in 2015, it marked the team’s first year back in partnership with Honda since the 1990s. Button endured one of the most challenging seasons of his career, often battling at the back of the grid rather than fighting for points.

Despite the setbacks, however, he remained optimistic throughout, securing four points finishes, with a best result of sixth place at the United States Grand Prix. His perseverance and experience were vital in helping the team gather crucial data for development, laying the groundwork for future improvements.
